APP members have identified eight key sectors in our economies that are essential areas in which to transform our technologies and practices. These eight sectors - Aluminum, Buildings and Appliances, Cement, Cleaner Fossil Energy, Coal Mining, Power Generation and Transmission, Renewable Energy and Distributed Generation, and Steel - constitute both the energy supply and the energy demand components of APP economies.
By focusing its efforts within these sectors through the public-private Task Forces, the APP can accelerate the dissemination of best practices to all levels of government policy makers as well as to private firms engaged in industry activities. Bringing key stakeholders from the seven APP countries in each of these sectors together through the Task Force model sparks connections, networks, and discussions among industries and governments, facilitating uptake of clean technologies and providing an open forum for information sharing.
The challenges and barriers evident in both the supply and demand sides of the energy equation, as made clear through the work of the Task Forces, determine the nature of all APP work. Addressing such challenges, through a combination of institution building and clean finance activities, forms the heart of the Partnership. Institution building and clean finance activities range from data collection and capacity building in policy, finance, engineering and management, to the promotion of pilot plants and demonstration projects which showcase state of the art technologies, to the widespread exchange of best practices in innovative clean technology and practice diffusion.
The following pages provide more detailed information on many of the institution-building activities APP Partners are implementing in all eight sectors to address both the energy supply and energy demand sides of the climate challenge.
